I prefer simple "communications quality" audio when I use SSB. As the FT-891 is intended to be my "phone mode radio" and I've done some initial adjustments to try and achieve a clean, basic communications-quality setup. From what I can work out, the "bandwidth" settings of the EQ refer to Q - the smaller the number the lower the Q and the wider the affected bandwidth. I'm aiming for gentle shaping of the voice band to cut the low-end boomy bass and lift the high end "articulation" so I've set a low-Q on each pole of the EQ filter. I've set both the non-Compression and the Compression EQ settings to the same values - I want the audio to sound the same with and without the processor. The Mic's rear "tone" switch can be used to give a slight increase in low frequencies by switching -> 1 if I ever feel the need. Here are the settings I've got on the FT-891 * MH31 Fist Mic rear switch -> 2 === Deep Menu Settings === |11-09 |SSB TX Bandwidth| 300-2700 | |16-07 |SSB Mic Gain| 15 | == EQ values for "Processor OFF" == |15-01 |EQ 1 Freq | 300 | |15-02 |EQ 1 Level| -10 | |15-03 |EQ 1 Bandwidth | 1 | |15-04 |EQ 2 Freq | 1200 | |15-05 |EQ 2 Level | 3 | |15-06 |EQ 2 Bandwidth | 1 | |15-07 |EQ 3 Freq | 2500 | |15-08 |EQ 3 Level | 10 | |15-09 |EQ 3 Bandwidth | 1 | == EQ values for "Processor ON" == |15-10 |P-EQ 1 Freq | 300 | |15-11 |P-EQ 1 Level| -10 | |15-12 |P-EQ 1 Bandwidth | 1 | |15-13 |P-EQ 2 Freq | 1200 | |15-14 |P-EQ 2 Level | 3 | |15-15 |P-EQ 2 Bandwidth | 1 | |15-16 |P-EQ 3 Freq | 2500 | |15-17 |P-EQ 3 Level | 10 | |15-18 |P-EQ 3 Bandwidth | 1 | === Function Menu settings === |MEQ | ON | | |PRC | ON | 30 | ===== User Manuals ===== * Basic Manual {{ :public:radio:radio_database:ft-891_om_eng_eh065h201_1611a-bo-2.pdf |}} * Advanced Manual {{ :public:radio:radio_database:ft-891_advance_manual_eng_1806-f.pdf |}} --- //John Pumford-Green 27/03/25 13:21 GMT// ===== Further Information ===== {{tag>radio ft891}}
